Happiness at high altitude: the plateau of the Villandro Alp and the Toamer Rastl

Admire the endless view over the mountains: the Odle Group, the Sella Group, the Sassolungo and Sassopiatto, the Siusi Alp, the Vedrette di Ries and the Zillertal Alps.

You feel you're standing on the roof of the world! Up at a height of 2,000 metres, this great plateau of the Villandro Alp covers an area of 20 km². There's so much on offer here. You can enjoy delicious specialities in the six mountain restaurants, and also experience this beautiful natural environment with all its treasures. In winter, the plateau offers 30 km of well-tended ski-slopes and several toboggan runs, while in summer there's a huge choice of themed paths and hiking routes, as well as mountain bike trails. The plateau of the Villandro Alp can be reached by car (with paid parking at Baita Gasser) or by the shuttle bus for hikers.

A journey into the heart of South Tyrol

On the basis of these coordinates, the exact centre point of South Tyrol was found to be right here on the plateau of the Villandro Alp, near the Chiesetta del Morto (Chapel of the Dead)!

The Toamer Rastl: our hotel's mountain hut and pasture

Our hotel's mountain hut is also up at 2000 metres on the plateau of the Villandro Alp, and you get a magnificent view from there. Once a week, from July to October, Walter puts on a fantastic barbecue at the hut, serving our guests with delicious home-made sausages, grilled vegetables, beef from our cattle and home-baked bread. Walter also loves playing some cheerful tunes on his accordion!

Meeting point: at the hut at midday - so everyone can get there at their own speed. The walk up starts from Baita Gasser, which you can get to by car or on our shuttle bus, leaving at 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. (returning at 3:30 or 5:30 p.m.).
